I was once lost, broken, hopeless, and defeated. Now I am directed, mended, full of hope, and living with joy. The Beacon House Association of San Pedro did this for me and now I want others to have the same experience.
Help me raise money to sponsor three men for a year.
I will be running The Long Beach Marathon on October 11, 2015 in honor of the place that saved my life. For more information about The Beacon House please click here.
If you want to learn more about what The Beacon House did for me here is a breif overview of my life:
Prior to arriving at The Beacon House I was a wandering, lifeless soul. I come from a dysfunctional family where drugs and alcohol was a normal everyday occurrence. From the time I can remember, I never really understood how to live life because the only skills I had were survival skills. Surviving from day to day was normal to me. In order to cope with the pains of life I turned to alcohol and drugs at the age of 14. Life gradually got worse over the years. After two failed suicide attempts, an underage DUI, and many demoralizing actions that only furthered my hopelessness I sought help. At 24 (2008) I had pushed everyone away and no one wanted anything to do with me, except The Beacon House. That was when the journey of my new life began. I arrived on the doorsteps of The Beacon House and was welcomed with open arms. The men were bright eyed and full of hope. I learned that alcohol and drugs were a symptom of my real problem: a spiritual malady. In order to combat this malady I had to be taught the importance of selflessness, principles, responsibility, and a genuine desire for a relationship with God. The men, along with staff, demonstrated what it should look like in action. Today I am blessed to work at The Beacon House, pursue an education, have my family in my life, and have a thriving spirit. My prayers are that other men have this same life-saving experience that I have been given.
