Most of us have heard the saying, "it's better to give than to receive." But Nat lives it.
She's the person that never forgets your birthday. She's the person that brings you a green juice and a cheese stick just because. She's the person that cares for your dog when you have no one else to help.
The first sign of something going wrong was pretty scary.
Nat's always been a healthy and energetic person. But, throughout the last year, a problem started to show itself. She began suffering random seizures. Each time she was admitted to the hospital, she was released without any definite solution. The doctors couldn't find a reason for the seizures.
Unfortunately, right before the 4th of July, Nat suffered a seizure resulting in a severe accident.
Throughout her years working at Basic Bar/Pizza, Nat has become a pillar of the downtown San Diego service industry. She's always been the ear to listen and the shoulder to cry on whether you knew her well or just popped in for a drink. Her kind heart and beautiful smile have affected so many people, and we want to bring that back.
The money raised through this GoFundMe will be used by Nat to pay for the staggering medical bills and to maintain her obligations (rent, phone, etc.) until she can return to work.
Nat has spent her life giving to everyone. And, even though she would refuse it if she could, now it's her turn to receive.
UPDATE (7/20/22):
Nat was released from the hospital and is now at home recovering! We are so thankful that she is doing much better. Here's more information about her accident, her current condition, and what the future holds.
Nat was in the ICU for 10 days. Her injuries included intracranial hemorrhage (bleeding of the brain), undetermined brain damage, a severe concussion, fractured cheekbones, a broken nose, a broken tooth, and significant soft tissue damage to the right side of her face and neck.
Her upcoming medical visits include:
- physical therapy to regain complete control of her legs; due to the concussion she still randomly loses balance when walking
- doctor's appointment to find out why there is still excess blood in her brain
- dental follow-up to see if the broken tooth requires extraction or a root canal
- visit to the plastic surgeon to determine if the 6 broken bones in her cheeks will heal naturally or will require surgery
We will know more after the 3 appointments Nat has at the end of this week.
Please stay tuned to this GoFundMe page for further updates on our amazing, resilient, brave girl!
