You can help give Maksim a brighter future

Donation protected
4-year-old Maksim has an ultra-rare genetic disease called GRIN2B-Related Neurodevelopmental Disorder for which there is no known treatment or cure. The disease can lead to debilitating seizures, intellectual disability, poor speech, low muscle tone, and a variety of behavioural issues.

When Michelle and Adam got their son’s diagnosis in 2021, they were told by the doctor that it is so rare (he was only 1 of 100 registered in the world at the time), that they knew nothing about the disease and it was up to them to find a researcher to help them better understand Maksim’s disease. But there is hope.

Since receiving the diagnosis, Michelle and Adam scoured the world to find a research lab to provide answers. They have now found researchers in Israel who are embarking on a one-of-a-kind, groundbreaking path to a cure for this disease using the same mRNA technology as was used in recent COVID-19 vaccines. In the short term, they can also help determine a personalized drug treatment plan which could dramatically improve Maksim’s quality of life and ability to learn.

In order to participate in the research, Maksim and his family must travel to Israel to provide blood and skin samples. The research is only partially funded and travel costs to Israel are significant. As there are currently no medications to treat GRIN2B, any drug found would be “off-label” and likely not covered by any drug plan.

We are aiming to raise $30,000 to help offset some costs. We understand that this is a significant amount of money, but the potential outcome is life-changing. We know that Michelle and Adam have a loving circle of family and friends. If we can get 200 donations of $150 each, then we can help give Maksim a much brighter future.

We would like to thank you so much for your generous donation to help Michelle and Adam and their special boy.
