You B4 Me Fund - Dave Wilson Memorial
Donation protected
During my last conversation with our dad, I was able to share my vision of how his legacy could remain for years to come. Dave Wilson was one of the most kind, compassionate and caring individuals any of us have known. He was also very generous in ways that sometimes we all didn’t see. Dave knew no stranger. His memorable smile lit up a room, and whether to a stranger, someone sitting at the ballfields, stands, or a co-worker, Dave always truly cared how others were doing. If you were ever around him, at some point you heard him say “no, no, you first…”. He always put others first.
I’m comforted knowing that we had time to tell him about the You B4 Me Foundation. I explained that the first deposit for the fund was the $8,517.32 he let me borrow 20 years ago while working on a project. Over the years, he would never let me repay him, so I told him I couldn’t let him leave without “squaring up”. I thought the best way to finally let Dave go first was to use his $8,517.32 as the starting deposit for the Foundation. He agreed that not only was it a good idea, but getting the grandkids involved in philanthropy was just as important as the financial.
Our goal is to match Dave’s initial contribution, so the Foundation’s legacy is starting strong. The Foundation will help support smaller organizations and individuals - that way You B4 Me can have a greater impact on the community
Foundations do take time to set up, so this site was the best way to answer all your questions of “what can we do to help.”
If you have any questions, please reach out to Jim.
SIDE NOTE: We mentioned how we got the name, but what about the logo? Many of us associate a dark blue old truck of any make/model with Dave’s 1942 Dodge Truck. This is the truck we learned to drive a stick shift in, went for summertime ice cream while riding in the back of the bed, or just cruised around. Just as the old 1942 Dodge Truck is still in the family and running… we envision Dave’s legacy to keep running for decades to come.
