A group of us are fund raising for Penny Rorrison and her family by completing the Yorkshire three peaks challenge .
Penny is 6 years old, has a growth hormone deficiency and has recently been diagnosed with Fanconi Anemia. We are hoping to raise £6000, 50% for Penny and her family, and 50% donated to the Candle Lighters Charity who have been helping children and their families since 1976.
A while ago Penny had been having some nosebleeds and, during a routine appointment, the doctor noticed some unusual bruising. After some urgent blood tests they found her blood count to be low in all areas, specifically the platelets and white blood cells. Since then, Penny has spent her time in and out of hospital for countless tests including a bone marrow biopsy at Leeds general Hospital.
She was finally diagnosed with a rare genetic blood disorder called Fanconi Anemia . Penny now requires a stem cell transplant and is starting treatment for this in the coming weeks. The treatment involves a week of chemotherapy, followed by 4-6 weeks isolation at Leeds Hospital, after which, she will still need to isolate at home for a further 3-6 months.
After an already tough time, this is going to be yet another tough year for Penny and her family; her father is also undergoing medical restrictions to allow him to donate his stem cells, the household will be under isolation, and therefore, Penny's sister Daisy will also miss out on valuable school time. After the treatment is completed, Penny's parents hope to take Penny and her sister away for a holiday to end this year on a high.
Thank you for taking the time to read about Penny.
