Yonder Contemporary Dance Company is a pre-professional dance company comprised of a collective of students and faculty from the Dance Program, the School of Music, the Department of Advertising/Public Relations, and The Department of Creative Media, at the in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The company renews itself every two years with new collaborators working on a new project. Yonder aims to give as many young artists as possible the opportunity to create collaborative work and obtain hands-on experience traveling and performing.
This season, we are creating a show titled False Awakenings, which explores the liminal space between sound asleep and wide awake - revealing a world of uneasy silliness, beautiful uncertainty, and disjointed associations. There are six choreographers creating portions of the concert that will be ordered, developed, and merged together to form a 50-minute concert examining our theme from multiple perspectives. The six choreographers are performing alongside seven other dancers, for a total of 15 dancers performing the work. Six composers are collaborating with the choreographers and with each other to create original music for the concert. Two other students are also working on the publicity and documentation for the company and the tour. In addition to our Tuscaloosa performance in November, 2019, Yonder will tour the Southeast in the Spring of 2020, traveling to Mobile, AL, Birmingham, AL, Nashville, TN and Atlanta, GA. At each location, company members will teach workshops to dancers in the community and perform their show before traveling to Edinburgh, Scotland in August 2020 for a week of performances at the Edinburgh International Festival Fringe. During our 2018 tour, Yonder connected with over 900 community members across locations.
Any amount of money donated will go towards our travel expenses to help bring our work to as many people as possible. Donations will help to cover transportation costs, hotels, teaching expenses, advertising and marketing for the performances.
