My name is Mom, just kidding, my name is Yolanda. My friends call me Yoly. My five children call me Ma but my favorite little people, my three beautiful granddaughters, call me Lela. If you don't already know, I hate being out in the sun but I love living in Florida because of the diversity and opportunities - the alligator and dumb people stories are fun too! My vice of choice is Don Francisco Columbian coffee and my guilty pleasure is peanut butter chocolate! I truly love my life. I want to grow old and become a sassy, pink lipstick wearing, Leasing Consultant somewhere because I love what I do and DO NOT want to retire! But should I be forced to retire, you best believe I will still be dancing Salsa somewhere! Even if it's just around my kitchen or patio.
I’m 50 years young and just a few weeks ago I was diagnosed with a rare, aggressive type of Breast Cancer.
That means that I need to be just as aggressive with managing my health care and starting treatments right away. Although I have health insurance through my employer, my deductible and out of pocket expenses will exceed $19,000 just through the end of 2021. I will incur more medical expenses after the new year once my annual deductible renews with my insurance.
The current plan is to have surgery followed by chemotherapy. My date of surgery is coming up very soon. I will be spending Christmas and New Years at home recovering in bed for 4 to 6 weeks. Once I am cleared, the chemotherapy will begin followed by another surgery in late spring. I have had a lot of thinking to do and decisions to make under pressure!
Along with managing my health, it turns out that the property where I am working has sold. This means that I will be changing my job location soon and looking for a new home for our family as well. ALL at the same time. I am most grateful to say that my employer has been amazingly supportive and encouraging. They have offered me some options and assured me that there will be ample coverage during my absence. The best part is that I have a partner that was truly God sent and a whole TRIBE of family and friends to help me during this time.
The hardest part for me so far has been sharing my news because it has caused some sadness, which in turns makes me sad. That's when I make sure to remind my loved ones that things will turn out fine. It may be a little messy at times and there will be some bumps in the road on my journey, but I will get there! I recognize that I have not always been good at asking for help and I am getting better at it. I will need all the help I can get. For that reason, I have created this fundraiser at the encouragement of friends that want to help me in any way they can and show their support.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for taking the time to read my story and know that even if all you can do is keep me in your prayers at this time...........I am most grateful and sincerely appreciative.
