Campaign Breakdown:
- EVERY dollar raised through this campaign will go into the production of YOKUTS LAND themed yard signs, stickers, and (if we raise enough funds) t-shirts!
- 100% of profits from sold merchandise will be donated to FAIHP (Fresno American Indian Health Project).
- This is NOT an order site! My hope is to raise the funds, produce the goods, make those goods available to YOU.
My name is Jamie Nelson, I am a Choinumni Yokuts Native, a lifelong Fresno, Ca. resident, located in the heart of #YokutsLand. I started the campaign for the removal of the Fresno High School "Warriors" mascot image. Working hand-in-hand with local Natives and community members, we were successful in removing that harmful colonial relic. What's next? One key step is educating the local community about the Yokuts People, while continually pushing for the health of Native People in our community.
The mission for this campaign is two-fold:
1. Raise funds for an AMAZING organization, Fresno American Indian Health Project (FAIHP): FAIHP is a local agency dedicated to the health of our Native community while offering, "...services to meet the needs of our community from cradle board through adulthood to our WISE elders. These services include public health, behavioral health, as well as youth prevention services. FAIHP providers utilize best practice solutions for problems of substance abuse, diabetes stabilization, suicide prevention, and a variety of presenting problems associated with mental health issues." - FAIHP - About Us
2. Land Acknowledgment! One thing we noticed right away during the Fresno High Mascot campaign was the lack of knowledge about the People who originally inhabited the Valley and surrounding foothills. Sure, most people knew that there were Natives here, but few knew our name, #YOKUTS. This campaign hopes to educate non-Natives, while offering a chance to openly acknowledge our people with a yard sign, sticker, or t-shirt!
Each Yokuts Land yard sign will be: $25* (plus s&h if purchased online).
*If you are not in a position to pay $25 for a Yokuts Land yard sign, contact me privately. I will do my best to make sure money is not an obstacle. I don't want to price people out of Land Acknowledgment, that would defeat the purpose of this campaign. <3
