Yoga for Trauma Survivors

Donation protected
The practice of yoga has been a part of my life for the last 15 years. It has brought me peace, insight, perspective and connection. I am humbled and excited to be given the opportunity of participating in Yoga Teacher Training (YTT) with the intention of bringing this practice to underserved vulnerable populations and the people who serve them.

I currently work as a social worker providing counseling services for survivors of intimate partner abuse at a local nonprofit called SafeHouse Denver. Moving forward, my desire is to continue to provide support services for trauma survivors, those with mental health difficulties, and other service providers who are impacted by secondary trauma. Yoga has been long known by its practitioners to be a strong healing force, however research has only recently provided supportive evidence for this idea. I am thrilled to see yoga/mindfulness being accepted in the mainstream as an effective treatment for trauma survivors and for those with mental health difficulties.

I am fortunate to work for an organization that recognized the healing powers of yoga. SafeHouse Denver applied for a grant several months ago that included a budget for Yoga Teacher Training (YTT). The intention was to bring Trauma-Informed Yoga to our clients. Unfortunately, we did not receive half of the grant money we applied for, and YTT was worked into that portion of which we did not receive. I decided to share my intentions for YTT with Mudra Yoga Studio in Denver, and they responded with enthusiasm and support for my mission. They offered me a very generous 50% scholarship and have continued to share their excitement and support regarding my intentions. When an oppurtunity for a Trauma-Informed Yoga Training recently presented itself,  SafeHouse Denver generously offered to provide funding through private donors. I am incredibly humbled and grateful. I would also like to extend my graditude to the survivors I have been privileged to serve, and for showing me what incredible resilience looks like; and to the countless humanitarians, social workers, and yogis I have met along the way. You are my teachers, and I am grateful.

If you feel moved by my intentions, and are inspired to support my cause, please do so here. Any amount is greatly appreciated. If you are unable to provide a donation, but feel inspired to support in another way, please feel free to share my intentions with your loved ones. By supporting me you are also supporting vulnerable and underserved individuals and groups.

Helping people heal their trauma through the practice of yoga/mindfulness and making yoga more accessible to those in need is a dream come true for me. I am excited and humbled to begin the next step in my yoga journey by providing service for others.
