My sister, Yodalys Vasquez developed a complicated anal fistula and 4 fistula abscess connected to the intestine, rectum and vagina. She had her 1st surgery regarding this issue on February 2019, to drain the abscess. The abscess was drained and left open to continue to drain and heal but it got worst. On March 2nd she had a 2nd surgery to continue to drain the 4 abscess that kept filling back up.
On May 13th underwent a 3rd surgery to drain the abscess which allowed the doctor to find the root of the problem, an anal fistula . During surgery she experience a respiratory arrest and was in ICU. They were only able to drain the abscess and tied the rectum entrance to the fistula. The fistula was going upward against the vagina wall. The Fistula and abscess were still open in June and July to continue draining. She was instructed to use adults diapers and stay in bed rest to allow her body to heal. She suffered allergies from medicine and started having complications due to her Sickle Cell Disease . She would constantly have Hemolytic crisis.
My sister had to go into a 4th surgery again on August 30th because the fistula opened up.Her colon was draining stool out of the anal fistula that is connected to the anus due to the hole that goes upward. On September 6th, she had a 5th Surgery to close the connection between the exterior fistula and the colon. Now in October she is draining stool again and It has become a vaginal fistula . She has to go under another surgery Within the next couple of months.
We are doing whatever we can to support her. She is in Panama, but my younger sister, my mom and I Giselle Vasquez are here in United states. We are unable to visit her, to be there for her every time she goes in or out of surgery. Unable to help cooking, cleaning, help with my nephews or hold her hand to motivate her to continue fighting. Our father who is unemployed and retired has been helping with money from different gigs. We can send as much as we can to help with expenses, but it isn’t enough and the surgeries won’t stop. Due to her Sickle cell anemia condition she only receives a disability check. Her husband just got laid off due to downsizing and disability is the only income they have coming in for a family of 4.
Any contribution will help with medical expenses, hygiene products and for my mother plane ticket to be with her.
