The situation is not only dire in many areas, but is worsening with each passing day. The nearly complete devastation of the power grid and communciation infrastructure has left peole in the dark and compromised the water supply.
Since launching this campaign, we have been working to raise money to help meet the most urgent needs. To date, we have distributed 1450 solar lanterns in collaboration with Watts of Love and many of our dear friends on the ground. These people are the first responders and together we are doing what we can to help our neighbors that are in the dark and struggling to access drinking water.
Our first withdrawal from the fund will be used to reimburse the purchase of the solar lanterns from Watts of Love a 501c3 non-profit.
We intend to expand these efforts by providing more solar lights and we are working to provide water filters. These lights and filters are being distributed directly to the people of Rincón.
My name is Leon Richter and I have lived in Rincón since 2001. I have done extensive work in our community with the Surfrider Foundation and through these efforts have come to love the town, its coastline and its people. I have both literally and figuratively planted roots in Rincón and feel compelled to help rebuild this special place.
We hope you will continue to support our efforts.
