Vindero Lightfoot is from Freeport, Bahamas, and was a victim of Hurricane Dorian.
His world was turned upside down after the devasting storm back in September, but he is not giving up on his dreams: to be the first Lightfoot to attend college and to run track—his passion—at the college level. And he really needs your help to get here!
"My family and I watched our home get destroyed by Hurricane Dorian, and were completely uprooted. Left with no clean, running water and no electricity, we evacuated to Florida. My academic career was thrown off too—as a recent high school grad, the storm interrupted my entire college application process."
"After the storm, there was a lot that felt unsure about the future—but I’ve been training hard my whole life and refused to lose sight of my dream. Despite starting a new life in Florida, away from much of my family, I worked hard and was accepted to Keiser University I’m Florida. "
Vindero nor his family come form much money, particularly after the storm. But they are loving, hardworking people, and we want to help him make his family proud. "When I received my acceptance, I was so happy to feel that my hard work had paid off—I was awarded BOTH Academic Merit scholarships and now an Athletic scholarship."
Unfortunately, Vindero stills needs some more money to cover the costs of college. "Fundraising and scholarship money will be the only way to make my dreams come true."
