Hayley Skye Smith's brighter future
Donation protected
Hayley Smith is a very loved mother, daughter, sister, and friend who recently found herself a hair width away from becoming paraplegic or dead.
Three weeks ago Hayley was leaving a friends house when she tripped and fell down a full flight of stairs.
She was taken to hospital to find that she had broken her neck and shattered her 2nd and 3rd vertebrae.
The surgeons had to do a bone graft from her right hip to make new vertebrae, they removed the shattered parts and replaced them with new moulds from the bone graft.
To do this they had to operate through the throat, around her voice box and esophogus.
Three days after the operation Hayley then had to have another operation to get a halo attatched by screws which were inserted four places into her scull. This is to keep her head and neck in place to help the healing process and to ensure she doesn't move her neck or back to cause any further damage.
Hayley had four head surgeons operating on her at the one time.
The head X-Ray technician was asked if he had ever seen an X-Ray like Hayleys and he replied with " not on anyone that is alive ".
Hayley has spent the last three weeks healing, recovering and taking things slow, she's not able to work or drive and doesn't have an income of any kind.
Hayley has an attitude like no other, she's always looking at things in the most positive way she possibly can.
Hayley was asked by a friend how can she continue to be so brave and act so happy? Her response was " I dodged death by a hair width , I am the luckiest person in the world right now. "
Even though you'd think things can't get much worse after everything Hayley has been through the last three weeks, they did.
She then had her car stolen from the street outside her unit.
I'm sure there are a lot of people who would love to help Hayley in one way or another, fingers crossed everyone can get together and help raise some money to cover her bills, rent, everyday living and debts whilst not being able to work. Every cent counts.
Hopefully we can help create a brighter future for Hayley over the next few weeks!!
Sending all prayers and love to you Hayley.
