My name is Martyna and I am Sylwia’s daughter.
Sylwia’s story started in January 2020, and at the age of 48, she was diagnosed with Cervical Cancer. This meant that Sylwia’s cancer was aggressive and surgeons decided they weren’t able to operate because it had spread into her lymph nodes.
Sylwia completed 10 gruelling sessions of radiotherapy, 6 sessions of chemotherapy - all during the pandemic. As her friends & family, we were so proud of her & we were all looking forward to celebrating when she was supposed to be getting the positive news we were expecting. Instead, we received some tragic news in April 2021.
On the 26th April 2021, Sylwia was told the devastating news that her cancer had come back.
This news was heartbreaking, nothing could have prepared us for the next bit of news - her tumor is pressing on kidney so she needs to prepare for stent procedure, after 2 weeks she started her new regime which caused her to lose her hair. The new regime also caused my mum to become weak and she developed blod clots, but the bad news wasn't over. A CT scan then showed her lymph nodes were not responding to the treatment, so chemo had not worked the way it was supposed to.
My mum is too weak to start another new regime so our best chance is to have a break and think about private immunotherapy treatment.
Over the last few months, Sylwia’s life has drastically become a lot different, yet she is still the most positive person we know. She wakes up with a smile on her face, she is so strong and she is determined not to let this beat her.
Unfortunately, access to this life-extending treatment is very expensive, As Sylwia’s family we relentlessly researching different treatment plans that are suitable for her and that will help to prolong her life, and this is where you can help.
