We are raising funds for the production of the upcoming music video for Yna's "somewhere in chicago" ! This project is completely self-funded, and every contribution will go directly towards production costs such as craft services, wardrobe, location permits, and more. Any amount will be helpful and greatly appreciated
A note from the artist:
Hi! I’m Yna, a queer Filipina artist. If you don't know me, you probably don’t know that I lived in Chicago for 4 years, the first city I ever fell in love with. Within these 4 years, I discovered so much about myself as an artist and human being. But most importantly, I found my chosen family. I wouldn’t have gotten through my years in Chicago if it weren’t for the people I had the privilege of crossing paths with.
Before Chicago, I grew up in California, which is where I originally wrote “somewhere in chicago”. It was a song out of pure admiration for a city after visiting and yearning to be there. Fast forward to 2 years later, the first time I ever played this song live was at my first venue show at Schuba's. It’s become my favorite song to perform live because I always get the audience to sing the echo’d chorus lyrics for me. It’s my way of feeling connected with everyone and creating a sense of community.
Now based in New York, which is where I moved to about 8 months after my journey in Chicago, singing this song holds such a different weight to me now. I didn’t have the time or mental confidence to create a music video while I was living in Chicago, but I think the sudden inspiration to finally do it now is for a reason.
My wonderful friend and Filipino filmmaker, Jade Magno McGovern, is helping me bring this song to life. We’re gonna be driving to Chicago for a one day shoot to make this music video with all of my favorite people. Of course as independent artists, the financial struggle is one that humbled as most.
That being said, we’re setting up this gofundme to raise any money that will go towards the music video shoot (I.e crafty, production design, etc). it’d mean the world if you could donate and/or share as you wouldn’t be making this project of mine come to life, but helping us show the beautiful community that I am so honored to have found in the city.
This one is dedicated to you Chicago ❤️
