We need a home. I’ve been unemployed for 3 months, and my savings are gone. My husband decided now was a good time to say we need to separate, and I’m the one who has to leave. Please, no advice; he’s right about that part but a jerk for the rest.

I have 30 days at my mom’s retirement facility. That’s it. I have two dogs, lovely Maebelle and sweet Arbuckle. Only Maebelle is with me now, I need to rescue Arbuckle but first, we need a home. Can anyone help? If it comes to it, the dogs and I live in the car I can no longer afford. But let’s hope it doesn’t come to that.

UPDATE: Hi everyone—

Thank you so much to everyone who has donated, shared, or just sent a kind message. Your support got me out of an incredibly painful situation, and I’m now staying at my mom’s… on her sofa… with my dog Mae. It’s not ideal—no WiFi, no privacy—but it’s a safe place for now. And that means everything.

The hard part? I only have 30 days here.

After that, I’ll be on my own—with no steady income, no housing, and no guarantee I’ll be able to stay with my dog. I’m heartbroken to be separated from my other dogs already, especially my pug Arbuckle, who’s always been my shadow.

But I’m not giving up. I’m rebuilding my life—starting over from scratch at 50—and here’s what I’m working toward:

A place to live in Houston (inside the loop, close to opportunities and services)

A job that pays enough to finally breathe again

A safe, peaceful home where I can reunite with my other dog and start over

I’m actively applying to jobs and looking for temporary housing—but I still need help covering deposits, pet fees, basic living costs, and staying afloat in the meantime.

UPDATE AGAIN 9/19/25: we have our place, we have our job, but I haven’t earned enough commission to pay my bills yet. I’m working so hard, on the phones and at appointments, it’s just taking awhile to get going. Can you please help us pay our rent, utilities, etc. for October? I’m so sorry to ask again I just don’t know where else to turn and we are again facing homelessness. We are desperate but not giving up. And part of that is because you care. Thank you and we love you so much.
