I am starting this go fund me for my niece, Hailey Cornbower. Hailey is epileptic and diabetic. She went to the emergency room at York Hospital July 19, 2025 and then admitted. Doctors were thinking she had a UTI that led to a kidney infection. They also saw another issue as her platelets were depleted. The first two nights Hailey was hypoglycemic (sugar dropping down to 30) and spiking high fevers. Many tests were done and still no answers. Hailey became septic and then went into kidney failure. The hematologist at York were thinking she may have HLH (hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis) but were not certain and did not believe they could do any more to help her. Johns Hopkins and UPenn did not have any ICU openings so Hailey was transferred to Hershey Medical Center on Friday, July 25.
Hershey started doing more testing (blood tests, CT scans, MRI, etc) and we still do not have any answers. Hailey is not stable as it seems new issues arise daily. They stopped her Depakote and started her on another seizure med that is easier to process through her kidneys and liver. They put in another central line and she is now on dialysis. The hematologist at Hershey does not think this started as a UTI that turned into a kidney infection so additional testing is still being done but no answers yet. Hailey has had at least 4 Cryoprecipitate treatments and she needed a blood transfusion on Sunday.
My sister has been by Hailey's side since this nightmare started. This go fund me will help with Hailey's medical expenses and living expenses while unable to work.
Update: On top of everything else going on, Hailey had a seizure Saturday night. Sunday evening she went for a series of CT scans and they found her left kidney was bleeding. They performed a procedure to try to stop the bleeding but was unsuccessful. The doctors are thinking they will need to remover her kidney. Still no answers to what is going on. Everything is reactive based on her symptoms and testing but still no answers to what is causing everything. Please continue to keep Hailey, her parents, and her medical team in your prayers.
