Hello Family and Friends,
Thank you for the huge outpouring of love and requests on how you can support dad (Manuel Lerma) and our family! This wonderful man who my brother Chris and I call Pops, just beat cancer - but the cancer left his immune system compromised - leaving him vulnerable to a fungal infection called Mucormycosis. This infection put him in the hospital May 29th, where he had 2 emergency procedures. On June 3rd he had a cardiac arrest but was able to be brought back to life.
After meeting with the doctors and dad, due to the many health complications, we collectively decided to put him on hospice care. The road to this point has been very challenging, but thankfully he is happy at home now and is under 24-hour family care with additional support from hospice. We all know the path forward will be a difficult one, and it’s truly a reflection of his fighting spirit which has allowed him to endure, persevere, and overcome so many challenges just to make it to this point in his life. At this time, we’re doing the best we can to keep him comfortable by reducing his suffering to the best of our abilities while also supporting his wishes to keep providing him with different types of healing treatments.
Many people have requested that we start a GoFundMe to allow people the opportunity to show appreciation and financial support for his medical supplies, healing equipment, natural medicines, oxygen, liquid food, and other upcoming expenses.
We appreciate all the different methods of love that has been shown so far (cards, text messages, phone calls, prayers, healing energy, ceremonies, encouraging words, financial support and coming over to visit). It has been beautiful to hear all the positive impacting stories shared - dad has been both a role model and father figure to so many people throughout his life. Dad always has family at the center of his heart and an open door for anyone to come into our home, whether you were a lifelong friend or someone he just met. His intentions have always been to serve as an example for our larger family showing them that if he could be successful coming from extreme poverty that others could also be successful in life.
We are deeply grateful for your continued love and support for dad (aka The Champ). From our family to yours, we thank you and wish you and your loved ones an abundance of health and happiness. Please make the most of each moment you have with your loved ones. We love you! ❤️
