Caring for Sharon
Donation protected
In May 2009 at the age of 42, my sister was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. For a little over 10 years she has bravely fought her condition with chemotherapies, biopsies and several medications. This year, Sharon has had a major setback after undergoing a recent biopsy. While at home only days after recovery, she began to have multiple seizures in a day. Sharon was rushed to the local hospital after losing her mobility and speech. That evening, my sister was taken to Upstate Medical in Syracuse.
The relapse from her biopsy came on June 30 and on July 2, my sister had an emergency craniotomy. Her husband, Mark, has been by her side throughout her condition. He has not worked since June because my sister is unable to talk or get around. Sharon is currently undergoing physical and speech therapy.
My sister is a very proud and strong person. Sharon is an Army veteran like her husband. As a family, we have had to overcome many hurdles in life. We were raised by our mother who worked multiple jobs during my childhood and my sister, Sharon, was the one who took care of me. From a young age, she has proven to be a fighter.
Sharon is selfless, fun-loving, caring and always thinking of others before herself. My sister was never able to have children of her own but was blessed to be able to adopt and raise our cousin since she was 9 months old. Sharon was lucky enough to watch her graduate in 2017.
My sister is still fighting courageously to improve her overall health. Unfortunately, even with the help of family, bills are continuing to add up and the financial struggles grow harder and harder each day. Mark is unable to go back to work while she is still 1 hour and a 30 minutes from home in Syracuse.
My sister's road to recovery will be a long one but with your support, that road doesn't have to be a financial burden. Any amount is greatly appreciated and will help the Hurst family during this difficult time.
UPDATE: On Friday night, August 21, 2020 Sharon and Mark loss their home to a fire. Thankfully they were able to get out safely but their home is a total loss. I have increased the goal for this fundraiser to include assistance to their added loss. Please keep my sister and her husband in your prayers.
