On November 5th, Papi fell down the scary, metal stairs in our new apartment, got his back right leg caught, and broke his foot in 3 places. For the past 3+ months, we've tried healing the fractures with biweekly splint changes and, unfortunately, have had no luck. Papi still cannot put any substantial weight on the foot, and it causes him so much discomfort that now, our only option to give Papi the chance to live a long, comfortable life, is to amputate his hind leg.
The cost of the initial ER visit and each subsequent vet visit for regular and emergency splint changes (not including over $1,000 worth of Uber Pet rides, as I cannot take him on a subway ride in this condition) is $3,110.77. The ASPCA has been so generous to offer to perform Papi's surgery (scheduled for February 17th) and post-op care for only $450. This brings Papi's total vet bills to over $3,500.
As a 24-year-old pet owner/artist/waitress in New York City, I would do/pay anything to take care of my baby boy—even if that means completely breaking the bank. And boy, is the bank broken. I could use some help.
Thank you to anyone who is able to help out Papi and I, as he gets the surgery he needs and I pay off his vet bills. Whether that be through donation, spreading the word, or just by keeping him in your thoughts, everything is appreciated. We have a long road of recovery ahead of us!
