My name is Jewel. This fundraiser was created by our family to help our maternal grandmother’s sisters, the Wilcox and Beswick families, who lost everything during Hurricane Melissa in Jamaica.

My mother is an active duty U.S. Army service member, and we are doing all we can to support our loved ones overseas during this devastating time. Military support communities often come together to help service members and their families who are caring for relatives affected by natural disasters and we are deeply grateful for that continued spirit of service and generosity.

When family members went to visit, the roads were nearly impassable, blocked by debris and downed power lines, with only a single lane open in some areas. What they found was pure devastation.

Both families lost everything. The roofs of their homes were torn away, destroying nearly all of their belongings including clothing, refrigerators, stoves, televisions, cherished family photos, and more.

During the peak of the hurricane, neighbors heroically rescued both families. Mrs. Beswick is now staying with a neighbor, while the Wilcox family is living in their car. These are elderly individuals, ages 75 to 90, with special dietary and medical needs that are currently impossible to meet.

The community remains in crisis. There is no electricity, no piped water, no cellular reception, and limited access to food or medication. Roads are damaged, supermarkets, pharmacies, and gas stations are closed or operating with limited hours.

The families urgently need assistance for:

• Roof repairs and home restoration

• Replacement of basic household items and furniture

• Food, clean water, and clothing

• Support for medical and dietary needs
