INTRO

I introduce myself, my name is Giulia Lomuscio and I am a young filmmaker and director of photography working on my first feature film, No Time, which began as a final thesis project.

After developing the idea for the story, I collaborated with Roberta Martinelli, a talented writer and childhood friend of mine, to write the screenplay, now in its second draft, for which we have received the first positive responses from well-known screenwriting foundations and contests. Still, for most submissions, we will only find out if we have been awarded the funds next spring.

In the meantime, work continues scouting for locations, cast and crew, for which the producers, Sara Russo and Zoe Valentini, are already hard at work, but most importantly, for financial support. Namely, we are submitting the project to numerous open calls, competitions and national funds in both Italy and Germany.

So far, I have decided to compensate with my own resources all those working for this ambitious project's success with a flat rate and finance the cost of contests and funding applications.

However, we need financial help to carry on the production. So, while we are waiting to reap at least part of what we have sown, we have started this Gofundme to have a concrete base at this stage of the project's development and to allow everyone to work under the best conditions both for their own creative needs and for the success of the film.

LOGLINE

Andrea and Jacopo meet by chance in Berlin one year after the end of their love story. After the meeting, they return to their lives: Andrea to her chaos and Jacopo to his work. But their memories come back from the past and mess up the present.

SUMMARY

No Time is a film born out of the need to represent how time slips unrelentingly through our fingers and how many don’t understand the importance of finding our own path in life.

It’s the story of a former couple in Berlin, Andrea and Jacopo. They had different dreams and visions for their life, which eventually evolved into obstacles and drove them apart.

Andrea and Jacopo (28) come from the same city in southern Italy and share crazy teenage years and projects for the future, but at the same time represent two opposing lifestyles with few similarities in their priorities, passions and values.

The film follows different moments of their past together and the issues that anguish their present apart. This is portrayed with the continuous switching between places, from West/East Berlin to Apulia, music, from electronic vibes to Italian songwriter from the 70s, and colour, cold for Jacopo and warm for Andrea, which allow us to understand the different sides of their story.

The numerous jumps in time are used as a device to provide a greater exploration of the character's inner world and connect gestures, places and words to different situations by playing with photographic perspectives and editing. The characters’ realities and internal conflicts provide the keys to understanding the final message:

“No Time to Lose”.

PLOT

It is a Friday evening at the end of summer in Berlin when Andrea and Jacopo meet by chance after years at a photography exhibition. The encounter brings back powerful memories of their past as a couple, interrupting the protagonists' present.

Andrea is a young artist and photographer from Apulia who lives in East Berlin, in her friend Bea's messy apartment. She cannot find her place in the world, moves in the city's underground art scene and often takes drugs to ease the burden of her fears.

Jacopo, also from Apulia, lives in West Berlin. He lives alone in a luxury apartment overlooking the city and works at a major start-up. Money and diligence are the recipe for life he has inherited from his family, which has high expectations for him.

After their chance meeting, the two reflect on their lives realizing that they have lost sight of their true desires. Through images of their past, we slowly discover their love story and how they reached the breaking point.

But is it really all over? Or is there still time for them?

CREW

Giulia Lomuscio - Director/ Writer

Giulia Lomuscio (1997, Andria) is an Italian director of photography and director based in Berlin. She grew up in Puglia, studying theatre and classical arts, and decided to move to Rome to focus her studies on the visual arts. She graduated from Università di Roma La Sapienza with a degree in Cinema and Theater Studies, focusing on cinema and cinematography. In 2019 she trained in analogue photography and digital shooting techniques with teacher Walter Balducci, an Italian DoP. She moved to Berlin in 2020, doing experimental work with local artists related to music and visual culture. In 2021 she began her master's in Film Production at Catalyst University in Berlin, and the idea of ​​for No Time, her first feature film, started to take shape, expressing the concept of ​​visual communication as the primary vehicle of information. During the course, she directed and produced a few short videos, among them Modern Love and Noise, a documentary she co-directed with Samantha Decker and Jennifer Stokka called Good Trouble about different rebels in history, the fashion teaser Clothing Matter edited for the Academy of Fashion of London, the music video Mr. Rebel for Leonard Wellington. In 2022 approaching the writing process during her master's program, with the teacher Jon Carlos Evans, she started to work with her hometown friend Roberta Martinelli on the script for No Time.

Roberta Martinelli - Writer

Roberta Martinelli (1994, Andria) began her training in cinema with a bachelor's degree in Performing Arts and Sciences at La Sapienza University of Rome and continued with a master's degree in Cinema, Television and Multimedia Production at the University of Bologna. She trained in screenwriting by attending the Writing Cinema course held by Valia Santella and Bruno Oliviero in 2020 and the writing course at the school of Carlo Lucarelli, Bottega Finzioni, in 2019. She also approaches directing with a high-level training course held by Marco Bellocchio and organized by Fare Cinema Foundation (Bobbio, 2019).

In 2022 she wrote and directed the short film La Santa degli impossibili, she won the CORTO86 prize with a short film produced by the Mattador Cultural Association, and she wrote the short movie Tracce Perdute for SUBARU and produced by IED Milano e Anteo. She also worked as assistant director for the film Stray Cats (2022) directed by Florinda Frisardi, made by the Berlin-based DFFB and now in post-production.

Sara Russo - Producer

Sara Russo (1995, Florence) began her filmmaking career by graduating with a three-year degree in Film and Theatre Studies in Bologna before moving to Berlin and attending a course in Film Production at Catalyst University. Her passion for film led her to work in all areas, including acting, before specialising in production. In recent years she has produced a wide variety of projects in Germany, from music videos (I'm Remarkable by Wife Material, directed by Hannah Kugel), short films (Who Are We, directed by Colette McIsaac) to experimental videos (Estenemya, directed by Paris Tutera). In September 2021, production began on a short film shot in Iceland in December of the same year (Guts, directed by Álfgerdur Malmquist), which competed in the Reykjavik film festival. In March 2022, she began production on a Spanish short film shot in Valencia (Para Que Lo Que Me Queda En El Convento, directed by Angel Quel). During these years, she also assisted a Chinese production in making a TV documentary filmed in Italy (Small Bridge, Flowing Water, Hosehold). Sara has created a solid network of film professionals that she can count on to bring any creative idea to life.

Zoe Valentini - Producer

Zoe Valentini (1996, Rome) is an Italian filmmaker, producer and art director born in Rome and based in Berlin. She has a Bachelor in Film and Theatre Studies from La Sapienza Università di Roma and a Certificate in Film Production from the Catalyst Institute for Creative Arts in Berlin.

She works in different fields related to film, always with particular attention to achieving the best creative outcome within the limitations of independent filmmaking.

She has produced multiple short films, music videos and a feature film, Eddy Cobb: A Year of Productivity, directed by Jonah Garland.

She also works in the art department, both as an art director and assistant. Some recent films she was art director for are Para Que Lo Que Me Queda En El Convento (Spain 2022), directed by Angel Quel , Guts (Iceland 2022), directed by Álfgerdur Malmquist and Du bist so Wunderbar (Germany 2022), directed by Leandro Goddinho and Paulo Menenez.

Her own work as a filmmaker explores the intersection between the tragic and the silly in everyday life, with projects like Bed Time, a video podcast show about people who spend a lot of time in bed.

Wearing different hats allows her to bring perspective to each role and better understand each department's necessities.

INTRODUZIONE

Mi presento, mi chiamo Giulia Lomuscio e sono una giovane filmmaker e direttrice della fotografia alle prese con il suo primo lungometraggio, No Time, che nasce come progetto finale di tesi.

Dopo aver sviluppato l’idea per il soggetto, ho collaborato con Roberta Martinelli, talentuosa sceneggiatrice e mia amica d’infanzia, per la stesura della sceneggiatura, ora alla seconda stesura, per la quale abbiamo ricevuto i primi feedback positivi da note fondazioni di sceneggiatori e contest, ma per la maggior parte dei bandi scopriremo se abbiamo avuto accesso ai fondi solo in primavera.

Nel frattempo i lavori proseguono per la ricerca di location, cast e troupe, per la quale sono già al lavoro le produttrici, Sara Russo e Zoe Valentini, ma soprattutto di un supporto economico. Infatti stiamo candidando il progetto a numerosi bandi, concorsi e fondi nazionali sia in Italia che in Germania.

Sino ad ora ho deciso di retribuire io stessa tutti coloro che stanno lavorando per la riuscita di questo ambizioso progetto con una basic flat rate come si dice in gergo, paga forfettaria, e finanziare il costo dei contest e delle candidature ai finanziamenti.

Naturalmente però, abbiamo bisogno di un aiuto dal punto di vista economico per portare avanti la produzione, quindi in attesa di raccogliere almeno parte ciò che abbiamo seminato, abbiamo avviato questo Gofundme, al fine di avere una base concreta in questa fase di sviluppo del progetto e permettere a tutti di lavorare nelle migliori condizioni sia per le proprie necessitá creative, sia per la buona riuscita del film.

NO TIME

Andrea e Jacopo si incontrano per caso a Berlino dopo un anno dalla fine della loro storia d'amore. Dopo l'incontro tornano alle loro vite: Andrea al suo caos e Jacopo al suo lavoro. Ma i loro ricordi tornano dal passato e scombinano il presente.

SOMMARIO

No Time è un film nato dall'esigenza di rappresentare come il tempo ci scivoli inesorabilmente tra le dita e come molti di noi non capiscano l'importanza di trovare la propria strada nella vita.

È la storia di una ex coppia a Berlino, Andrea e Jacopo. Avevano sogni e prospettive diverse per la loro vita, che alla fine si sono trasformati in ostacoli e li hanno allontanati.

Andrea e Jacopo (28) provengono dalla stessa città del sud Italia e condividono un'adolescenza movimentata e progetti per il futuro, ma allo stesso tempo rappresentano due stili di vita opposti, con poche somiglianze nelle loro priorità, passioni e valori.

Il film segue diversi momenti del loro passato insieme e i problemi che attanagliano il loro presente divisi. Questo viene rappresentato con il continuo passaggio di luoghi, da Berlino Est/Ovest alla Puglia, di musiche, da vibrazioni elettroniche al cantautorato italiano degli anni 70, dai colori, freddi per Jacopo e caldi per Andrea, che ci permettono di capire i diversi aspetti della loro storia.

I numerosi salti temporali sono utilizzati come espediente per fornire una maggiore esplorazione del mondo interiore dei personaggi e collegare gesti, luoghi e parole a situazioni diverse, giocando con le prospettive fotografiche e il montaggio. La realtà e i conflitti interiori dei personaggi forniscono le chiavi interpretative per comprendere il messaggio finale: "Non c'è tempo da perdere".

TRAMA

È un venerdì sera di fine estate a Berlino quando Andrea e Jacopo si incontrano per caso dopo anni ad una mostra fotografica. L'incontro fa riaffiorare i ricordi potentissimi del loro passato di coppia, interrompendo il presente dei protagonisti.

Andrea è una giovane artista e fotografa pugliese che vive a Berlino Est, nell'appartamento trasandato della sua amica Bea. Non sa trovare il suo posto nel mondo, si muove nella scena artistica underground della città e spesso si droga per alleggerire il peso delle sue paure.

Jacopo, anche lui pugliese, vive a Berlino Ovest. Abita da solo in un appartamento di lusso con vista sulla città e lavora in un'importante start-up. Soldi e diligenza sono la ricetta di vita che ha ereditato dalla sua famiglia, che nutre grandi aspettative per lui.

Dopo l’incontro casuale, i due riflettono sulle loro vite rendendosi conto di aver perso di vista i loro veri desideri. Attraverso le immagini del loro passato, scopriamo piano piano la loro storia d'amore e come sono arrivati al punto di rottura.

Ma è davvero tutto finito? O c’è ancora tempo per loro?

TROUPE

Giulia Lomuscio - Regista/ Sceneggiatrice

Giulia Lomuscio (1997, Andria) è una direttrice della fotografia e regista italiana che vive a Berlino. Cresciuta in Puglia, studiando teatro e arti classiche, ha deciso di trasferirsi a Roma per concentrare i suoi studi sulle arti visive. Si è laureata all'Università di Roma La Sapienza in Arti e Scienze dello Spettacolo con indirizzo cinema e cinematografia. Nel 2019 si è formata in fotografia analogica e tecniche di ripresa digitale, con il supporto dell'insegnante Walter Balducci, un direttore della fotografia italiano. Nel 2020 si è trasferita a Berlino, svolgendo lavori sperimentali con artisti locali legati alla musica e alla cultura visuale. Nel 2021 ha iniziato un master in Produzione Cinematografica presso la Catalyst University di Berlino e l'idea di for No Time, il suo primo lungometraggio, ha iniziato a prendere forma, esplicitando l'idea della comunicazione visiva come principale veicolo di informazione. Durante il corso ha diretto e prodotto alcuni brevi video, tra cui Modern Love and Noise, un documentario che ha co-diretto con Samantha Decker e Jennifer Stokka intitolato Good Trouble su diversi ribelli nella storia, il teaser Clothing Matter curato per l'Accademia di Moda di Londra, il video musicale Mr.Rebel per Leonard Wellington. Nel 2022, avvicinandosi al processo di scrittura durante il suo programma di master, con l'insegnante Jon Carlos Evans, ha iniziato a lavorare con l'amica della sua città natale Roberta Martinelli alla sceneggiatura di No Time.

Roberta Martinelli - Sceneggiatrice

Roberta Martinelli (1994, Andria) ha iniziato la sua formazione cinematografica con una laurea triennale in Arti e Scienze dello Spettacolo all'Università La Sapienza di Roma e ha proseguito con un master in Cinema, Televisione e Produzione Multimediale all'Università di Bologna. Si è formata in sceneggiatura frequentando il corso di scrittura cinematografica tenuto da Valia Santella e Bruno Oliviero nel 2020 e il corso di scrittura presso la scuola di Carlo Lucarelli, Bottega Finzioni, nel 2019. Si avvicina anche alla regia con un corso di alta formazione tenuto da Marco Bellocchio e organizzato dalla Fondazione Fare Cinema (Bobbio,2019). Nel 2022 scrive e dirige il cortometraggio La santa degli impossibili, vince il premio CORTO86 con la sceneggiatura di un cortometraggio prodotto dall'Associazione Culturale Mattador. Ha lavorato come assistente alla regia del mediometraggio Stray Cats (2022) diretto da Florinda Frisardi, realizzato dalla DFFB di Berlino e ora in post-produzione.

Sara Russo - Produttrice

Sara Russo (1995, Firenze) ha iniziato il suo percorso nel cinema laureandosi alla triennale di Scienze dello Spettacolo a Bologna, per poi trasferirsi a Berlino e frequentare il corso in Film Production alla Catalyst University. La sua passione per il cinema l'ha portata a lavorare in tutti i settori, anche nella recitazione, prima di specializzarsi nella produzione. Negli ultimi anni ha prodotto una grande varietà di progetti in Germania, da video musicali (I’m Remarkable di Wife Material, diretto da Hannah Kugel), cortometraggi (Thrill, diretto da Hannah Kugel, Who Are We, diretto da Colette McIsaac) a video sperimentali (Estenemya, diretto da Paris Tutera). Nel settembre 2021 inizia la produzione di un corto girato in Islanda a dicembre dello stesso anno, (Guts, diretto da Álfgerdur Malmquist), in concorso al film festival di Reykjavik. A marzo 2022 inizia la produzione di un corto spagnolo, girato a Valencia (Para Que Lo Que Me Queda En El Convento, diretto da Angel Quel). In questi anni ha inoltre assistito una produzione cinese nella realizzazione di un documentario televisivo girato in Italia (Small Bridge, Flowing Water, Hosehold). Sara ha creato una solida rete di professionisti del cinema su cui può contare per dare vita a qualsiasi idea creativa.

Zoe Valentini - Produttrice

Zoe Valentini (1996, Roma) è una regista, produttrice e art director italiana nata a Roma e residente a Berlino. Ha conseguito una laurea in Arti e Scienze dello Spettacolo presso l'Università di Roma La Sapienza e un certificato in produzione cinematografica presso il Catalyst Institute for Creative Arts di Berlino.

Ha prodotto diversi cortometraggi, video musicali e un lungometraggio, Eddy Cobb: A Year of Productivity, diretto da Jonah Garland.

Lavora anche nel reparto artistico, sia come art director che come assistente. Tra i film recenti di cui è stata art director figurano Para Que Lo Que Me Queda En El Convento (Spagna 2022), diretto da Angel Quel, Guts (Islanda 2022), diretto da Álfgerdur Malmquist e Du bist so Wunderbar (Germania 2022), diretto da Leandro Goddinho e Paulo Menenez.

Il suo lavoro di regista esplora l'intersezione tra il tragico e lo sciocco nella vita di tutti i giorni, con progetti come Bed Time, un podcast video sulle persone che passano molto tempo a letto. Vestire panni diversi le permette di dare una prospettiva a ogni ruolo e di comprendere meglio le necessità di ogni reparto.
