We never imagined the journey to take place.

It all started the day of my dads funeral. Ron collapsed and ended up in the ICU, not knowing if he was going to survive. After more ICU visits than we care to remember, Ron made the choice to see if he would be eligible for a double lung transplant through the University of Minnesota. So Ron started over a year long process of doctors appointment, hospital stays and lots of therapy. So he would be eligible for the transplant list. After a year Ron got the phone call that a donor was available. So off Ron went to the University hospital. The drive to the University was scary and stressful not knowing the outcome. Ron needed to be to the University within 3 to 4 hours. Surgery began and lasted around 10 hours for the double lung transplant. As family wasn't allowed to wait at the hospital we had to wait for phone calls every hour for updates and this was very stressful. Now with Ron's surgery behind us. Ron is on a long road with doctors appointments twice a month. He is dealing with some rejection and some kidney function issues. His hemoglobin is also effected. Which makes him continually have Bronchoscopy procedure which is taking samples from the lungs for testing. This makes Ron not feel well. Ron is on lots of medications for rejection ,kidneys, blood and hemoglobin. All of the hospital stays, medications and hotel / apartment that Ron and I needed to stay at so we were near the University all of these expenses have added up. We had to spend all of our savings and retirement to keep Ron on his journey to recovery.
