Hi, my name is Madz Wright. I am a 20 year old woman that has found what makes my soul burn with passion. While I enjoy writing poetry and making friends with trees, my soul mate: my mother, always shares the same simplistically corny, but helpful piece of advice with me. “Do what makes you happy Madz” It took many years to harness this piece of advice in a way that would allow me to live a life with more smiles and less frowns. A lot of things make me happy, like green tea and a hot summer’s day, but I was never fulfilled because I couldn’t give back to these things. There was no emotional communication, and human connection with such moments and material objects.
I wanted more, and wanting more resulted in a realization that I had a passion for giving. Giving my advice, smiling at a sad soul on campus, being a shoulder to cry on, listening, and warming people’s hearts the way they’re vulnerability and broken beauty has warmed mine. That was receiving more than I could ever want. My passion is people, and I want to spread as much love as I can to those that need my help.
I am raising money for a volunteer trip to the Dominican Republic that has been set up through an organization called International Student Volunteers. I will be spending five weeks in this beautiful country in the most impoverished areas. I will be working to improve quality of life through community building and children’s programs, including arts & crafts, music, recreation and health education. I will be devoting my time to enriching the lives of children and families in rural communities who have little access to quality education and employment. We are given this life to love and feel love, and it is time for me to give my heart and soul to those that need it most.
If you chose to help me with this, your gracious donations will pay for travel expenses. In other words, you are helping this trip come to life through helping me get there and back. Your donations will also provide help with some program costs, like sleeping arrangements and meals. You’re generosity will not be seen as money, but as a spread of love and contribution to helping these gracious and impoverished families in the Dominican Republic.
My final payment deadline is April 15th and each penny you chose to donate will be appreciated more than you could ever imagine. In return, I will give back to each of you that help me get out there to pursue my passion of helping people. Depending on how much you chose to donate, I will seek unique ways to show my appreciation and share the experience with you, for you deserve to feel a part of this as much as I do.
It’s time to dance with children, build homes, make finger paintings and most importantly bring personal growth to each and every individual that I have the honor of being in the presence of!
