Help Us Say Goodbye to Chicle With Peace

Donation protected
Update (April 17, 2025):
After being discharged from the ER earlier this week, Chicle returned home with eight medications and a recommendation for daily fluids. Sadly, we’ve seen him withdraw more each day, and our attempts to care for him have been incredibly difficult. After deep reflection, we’ve made the heartbreaking decision to proceed with at-home euthanasia on Friday, April 18.

We are so grateful for the love and support you’ve all shown us. Your donations allowed us to give Chicle every chance and made this journey a little less heavy. Any additional contributions will go toward covering the remainder of his vet bills and end-of-life care. Thank you for standing with us.

Hi everyone,

I’m a cat mom to two beautiful fur babies, Cariña and Chicle — my first-ever cats, who opened my heart to the joy, uniqueness, and personality of the cat world.

I’m devastated to share that my 6-year-old cat, Chicle, is currently fighting for his life in the emergency room.

On March 28, 2025, Chicle was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease. As a first-time cat parent, I was overwhelmed. I didn’t know what to expect, and the diagnosis felt like a life sentence. But with the help of his vet and the support of my partner, we jumped into action — changing his diet, starting medications, and administering fluids every two days through a needle beneath his shoulders.

We kept up this routine until April 8, when Chicle’s health suddenly and severely declined.

That night, we rushed him to the UC Davis Small Animal Hospital ER, where he’s been hospitalized ever since. After further testing, we received another heartbreaking diagnosis: Chicle is also positive for Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV) — a condition that further complicates his health and makes recovery even more difficult.

The vets have been working around the clock to stabilize him and figure out, beyond the FeLV diagnosis, what caused his condition to worsen so drastically. He’s now undergoing additional testing and being treated with new medications based on a recent theory they’re exploring.

So far, his stay and treatment have totaled over $7,700 — and the bill continues to grow.

We’re doing everything we can to give Chicle a fighting chance while trying to stay mindful of the financial reality. We’re hoping for more answers — and hopefully, signs of improvement — by this weekend (April 12–13). But if there’s no progress, we’re preparing for the heartbreaking possibility of bringing him home to spend his final moments surrounded by love.

Watching a beloved companion decline like this has been the most painful experience of my life. I never imagined something like this could happen to one of my fur babies. If you’ve ever lost a companion animal, you know the pain — it’s deep, raw, and all-consuming.

While the emotional toll is enormous, the financial burden is becoming too much for us to carry alone. I’m deeply grateful for my partner, Jason, who has stepped up with so much strength, compassion, and love — even though Chicle’s only been in his life for less than a year, he sees him as his own.

Together, we’ve done all we can. Now, I’m reaching out — to loved ones, fellow animal lovers, kind strangers — for support.

Anything helps. Whether it’s $5, $50, or simply sharing this page, it means the world to us.

Thank you for reading, for caring, and for standing with us in this deeply painful moment.

With all my heart,
Beatriz
