Hello, my name is Zach Giganti, and I am starting this fundraiser for my fiancé Shelby Clark.

On October 14th, 2021, I came home from the gym at 5:45 a.m., and found Shelby having a massive seizure in bed, and unresponsive to all requests. I performed chest compressions on Shelby, since she was aspirating, and her lungs were drowning. EMS and firefighters arrived at my home, placed a breathing tube down Shelby’s throat, and escorted her away to the hospital.

After a few hours performing CT scans, MRI’s and tests, I was notified by the doctor that she had a large frontal lobe tumor on her brain, and massive swelling around it. Shelby was transferred to Barnes Jewish hospital at 12 o’clock, and placed into the ICU for monitoring. We spent 4-days in the hospital, before being discharged.

We were notified during our stay by Dr. Albert Kim, the Director of brain surgery at Barnes, that Shelby most likely had a Level 3 IDH Mutant Glioma Astrocytoma, which is a form of brain cancer. Her swelling in her brain was still very significant, and Dr. Kim would not be able to perform any surgery until swelling has subsided.

On November 11th, 2021, Shelby underwent an awake craniotomy, in which the surgery took 8 hours to perform. I was notified that Dr. Kim was able to successfully eliminate 70% of the brain tumor. The other 30% of the tumor is intertwined into her brain and nerves, which cannot be removed.

The tumor was sent off to pathology, and we will find out on November 23rd what the actual diagnosis of this tumor is. From there, we will be taking a journey of next steps that need to be taken, in order to conquer this brain cancer, and eliminate it from Shelby’s life.
