Motor neurone disease

On October 4 th 2017 I was diagnosed with motor neurone disease ‘the illness is terminal and incurable. Motor neurone disease is rare but can happen to anyone but men are twice as likely to get it ‘60 % of the diagnosed will die before two years and 88% only get to 3 years ‘the last 12% is random on how long you live. motor neurone disease causes muscles to waste and die leaving people unable to walk ‘talk or feed them selves.
since the day I was diagnosed my life has been a wave of different feelings and emotions and had so many personal battles to overcome and even lost some friends along the way ‘but the illness hasn’t taken my desire to be happy despite the difficulties
The reasons for being happy are simple I have two beautiful children who are everything to me and I feel lucky to be there father .i want them to enjoy life and create memories with them that they will always have. My idea is to raise money to use on days away and a holiday with them whilst I am still mobile and also to buy a mobility scooter (imagine the old lady in Benidorm but sexier) for the time I am a bit too weak to walk ‘these are not free on the nhs
life can be very strange when your looking on line for 18 and 21 birthday gifts for my kids to be given on there birthdays as it’s very unlikely I will be here . I genuinely do feel lucky because of my kids and because of some amazing people in my life who have done so much for me.
it really is true that you do look at life differently when you get diagnosed but you need to focus on living and not dying.
thank you for reading
