Athena's Surgery

We are reaching out with a heavy heart, seeking support for Athena's surgery.

Athena is our 8yr old Boerboel. She seriously the best dog, who only deserves the best. 

Back in November Athena was seeing the vet for on going allergy issues, when I asked about having a lump on her leg aspirated. The results came back with as a mast cell tumor. It was recommended to have it removed sooner rather than later. They had an opening for surgery the next day and since we were going to be home for a long weekend with the Thanksgiving holiday, we took it. However, during prep Athena managed to swallow the incubation tube. They were unable to locate the tube just looking down her throat. That is when they called to tell us and asked if we wanted to pick her up and take her somewhere else or continue to have them work on her. I opted for them to continue not knowing they were going to cut open her throat, only to find there was no tube. She was then rushed to X-ray where they found it in her stomach and proceed to retrieve it. After everything was done, it was suggested Athena spend the night at an emergency clinic, which turned into a two night stay over Thanksgiving. During her stay the clinic found a mass, they were not sure if it was on her spleen or liver and suggested we see a specialist after she heals.

Right before Christmas we managed to get in with an internal medicine specialist who has confirmed Athena has 2 small masses on her spleen. It was suggested to have the spleen removed before they rupture and to determine if its cancerous or benign.

We have continued to move forward and now have met with the surgery team go over the details of splenectomy, as well as removing the mast cell tumor the first vet never did.
