Hello family, friends, and well, everyone.
TLDR: My dear friend Matt is in a very difficult situation and needs your help. He needs invasive spinal surgery followed by hip surgery. Can you help? Please read on!
My dear friend, who has gone above and beyond not just for me, but for everyone he encounters, needs a third operation on his cervical spine. Over the past ten plus years of our friendship, Matt has helped me through numerous ups and downs in my own life, without ever a second thought. Now it is my time to repay the favor in the only way I know how.
Despite numerous hardships over the years, Matt always has a smile on his face, and a willingness to help anyone and everyone. His kindness radiates to those around him, and he is always striving to be the best friend, and person, possible. His unwavering dedication to help others is unparalleled. And I know I am not the only one who would say this about him.
What’s going on:
As mentioned above, Matt is going to need fairly invasive surgery in the immediate future to fix a genetic condition that has required him to need two cervical spine surgeries since 2014 and sadly he was just diagnosed with the need for a third.
For those who do not know him, Matt has spent the last six years building an IT Consulting company in Massachusetts that services clients throughout New England. As a small business owner, and the sole employee, he often spends 60+ hours a week dedicated to his clients, working on weekends, overnights, and throughout holidays, much to the chagrin of his loving husband, Brien. And he does it all without a single complaint. If a customer’s equipment fails at 2am, he’s there. If they have a project that requires overtime work on holidays, he’s there. And the same applies to his personal friendships as well. Whenever a friend is in need, literally whenever, he’s there.
Having to take anywhere from 2-4+ weeks off from work will be a difficult task for him to overcome, not just emotionally, but financially as well. That is why I’m reaching out into the universe to ask for help. While Matt has health insurance, the lack of ability to work for at least 2 weeks, but potentially up to 2 months or more, is a significant concern of his, and mine as well.
Matt is not only scheduled for mid-April spine surgery, sometime in late May or early June he will also need to have surgery on his hip, requiring additional missed work and additional unreimbursed medical expenses. With some good luck, though, he won't need any additional surgeries in the near future ;)
In these trying times, with many businesses needing to close due to COVID or other restrictions on their workplaces, Matt has persevered. And thanks to him, so do his clients.
How can you help:
I have set up this GoFundMe campaign to help Matt and his husband Brien with un-reimbursed medical expenses, as well as to help directly support his business in his absence. Donations will be used for medical expenses, bills, rent, and hopefully to help Matt keep his company open not only during his surgery and recovery time but also into the near future. Without your support, the tireless work that Matt has put in helping countless others, personally and professionally, may have to come to an abrupt and sad end.
This type of surgery, even with his insurance, easily costs upwards of $5000+ out of pocket and that doesn’t include the cost of lost business due to his absence. Additional business expenses such as office rent, utilities & services will all continue, despite the lack of business coming in while he is rehabilitating, something that will be difficult, if not impossible, for him to maintain during this time.
Through your direct support, we can show our appreciation for all that Matt has done for us and allow him to continue his passion into the future.
Every single donation, no matter how small or large, will directly support my dear friend. So even if you don’t have much to give, I would kindly ask you consider supporting this cause. And if you cannot financially help, please help us by spreading the word to your closest friends and families. Share on your social media platforms – the more shares the merrier.
Let’s show Matt that the kindness he’s known for isn’t all for nothing. And in doing so, help a small business to continue and grow into the future. And if for no other reason, donate to help support their kitty: Annabelle (photo attached)
