UPDATE 8/10/2020: MEDICAL BILLS & HOSPICE
======================

For those of you following James's story, here's a video update after his last visit to the oncologist. James will be going on hospice this week since all other treatment options have failed.

Here's a link to the video in case you can't see it above:  https://youtu.be/r5hF0Udqgrg

His wife, Angel, could really use some help paying off the medical bills that have totaled over $288,000 so far.

Even if you're not able to give, can you please share this with everyone you can and keep them in your prayers?  It will really help.

As James says..."Praise the Lord! God is good!"

Thanks,
Dave

ORIGINAL POST 4/1/2020
======================

My friend James Pennyman is battling cancer for the 3rd time in 5 years...and needs your help to keep fighting.

James was recently laid off from his job due to the Coronavirus and his health insurance and life insurance ended yesterday.

The results of his most recent PET scan do not look good.

He told me recently, "I just want to see my boys grow up, get married and have kids.  I'm afraid I may not get to see that happen."

James Pennyman's Story
James is a professional photographer from the Atlanta, Georgia area.   He met his wife Angel while doing a photo shoot of her.  Isn't she gorgeous?

Angel had a son named Jonathan from a previous marriage. James took him under his wing as his own son.  Jonathan is now 21.

Both James and Angel are gifted people. James has a YouTube Channel and Angel writes a popular blog about women and faith. They were married in 2011 and had plans to serve the Lord together.

Don't you know plans have a way of changing?  Sometimes "life happens."  Two amazing kids later, the Pennymans are now a family of five.  Zander is now 7 and Xavier (Jack) is now 5.

Cancer Battle - Round 1
In July 2015, James was diagnosed with an advanced stage colorectal cancer. He immediately began an aggressive treatment regimen of several chemotherapy rounds and eight weeks of daily radiation.

It was a rough time as sores developed in his mouth, it was hard to eat, his body ached and he was in a lot of pain.  Because of where the cancer was, it was difficult for him to walk and he spent a lot of time in bed.  Finally, after several months, he started to feel better and the cancer went into remission.

Cancer Battle - Round 2
In February 2017, the cancer metastasized and returned. This time the cancer had gotten into his lymph nodes.  The doctors started another round of chemo and radiation.  This time the chemo was in a pill form, so not as harsh on his body.  However, they had to do laparoscopic surgery to remove the affected lymph nodes.

After several months, James began to feel better and was able to resume a normal life.  He was able to take on a significant role in a photography company who later offered him a promotion if he moved to Houston, TX.  So in 2018, James & Angel moved their family of 5 from Atlanta to Houston.

Cancer Battle - Round 3
A great benefit of the move to Houston was that it put him closer to MD Anderson Cancer Center - one of the best cancer treatment centers in the world.

However, a PET scan in October 2018 showed cancerous activity again & they started chemo infusions in his arm.  It resulted in loss of hair, weight loss, & memory loss, but wasn't as hard on his body as previous treatments.

The challenge?

Since then, the cancer has not regressed...it's spreading.

About 6 months ago, James told God, "I'm tired of this God.  It's not working. I need to do this in a different way."

James has decided to pursue alternative treatment options and naturopathic medicines.  He met with an integrative oncologist in Atlanta that uses a myriad of alternative treatment therapies.

The doctor's proposed treatment plan is quite aggressive...and expensive...and not covered by insurance.  In fact, he no longer has insurance since he was recently laid off.

How Will The $25,000 Be Used?
The treatment plan from the integrative oncologist is over $12,000.  Health supplements cost up to $600 a month so about $7000 per year.  Travel, meals & lodging to and from Atlanta, GA to see the doctor will cost over $6000.  Any extra funds will be used to pay living expenses since James was just laid off and there's no guarantee he'll get his job back.

How You Can Help
Because of all of this....James & Angel need your help now.

This is from James & Angel:

"We're asking others to prayerfully consider coming alongside us to help handle the fiscal responsibility of this new treatment plan.  While we understand that some may not be able to help financially, we ask that you come alongside us and our family in prayer during this very challenging time.  Thank you in advance."

With 3 boys, no work, and a 3rd battle with cancer, the last thing they need is to worry about finances.  I'm asking for your help for them now. I realize this is a scary time financially for everyone but any amount you could give would be appreciated beyond belief.

These funds are needed as soon as possible so treatment can start.

I'll leave you with the last words James shared on the video below that I asked him to record for this GoFundMe campaign:  "Regardless of what happens, God is in control."

Thank you for praying and for giving so that James can beat cancer and watch his boys grow up.

P.S. Angel Pennyman has been named the beneficiary of this campaign so that your donations can be used for James' treatment immediately.  Thanks!
