Medical Help for Josh

On Monday, June 29th, Josh Frost was involved in a very serious accident on his longboard. Josh was not wearing a helmet at the time and sustained a major skull fracture, as well as other injuries. Fortunately, someone saw the accident, called 911 quickly, and an ambulance was nearby at a hospital. Initially the paramedics found Josh not breathing and he was transported to the University of Utah ER. The doctors quickly recognized the head injury and found major bleeding inside of Josh’s skull, creating dangerous swelling on his brain. A portion of his skull was removed to relieve the pressure. He was intubated, sedated, and moved to the neurologic critical care unit for observation. The following day Josh showed remarkable signs by being able to follow simple commands from the doctors including moving his hands and toes. Josh now faces a long road to recovery as well as more immediate questions of how will this injury has impacted his brain.

Josh is fortunate to have medical insurance through his father, Jay. However, the Frosts recently moved with the future anticipation of other health concerns in mind. Josh’s mother Marisa has MS and while the disease does not affect her noticeably now, the home they lived in had many stairs which would be difficult for her down the road as her own illness progresses. The family moved to a single floor home and this move has drained their savings. While the major expenses of this injury should be covered by insurance, there are numerous co-pays and other aspects of Josh’s recovery that will not be. Josh is now 18 and an adult, so any costs associated with this will go in his name, potentially saddling him with significant debt early in his life for the items that are not covered. For those of you that know the Frosts, accepting donations such as this is difficult for them, they are always the ones to make a donation and offer help, not the other way around.

These funds will be used solely for Josh’s medical expenses and related items. Any funds not needed because of insurance coverage will be donated to Primary Children’s Hospital in the Frost’s name. Anything helps in this circumstance, even prayers. Jay and Marisa are very appreciative of those prayers and the outpouring of love that friends and family have shown already.
