A few weeks ago, in the middle of a heavy rainstorm, we saw something we’ll never forget.
On the side of a highway, soaked and scared, were two dogs—a father and his 4-month-old puppy—left there with no one. No shelter, no food, no one coming back for them.
We couldn’t just drive away.
We pulled over and brought them home.
The father, Toby (2 years old), and his son Cody are now safe with us. As college students, we weren’t prepared for this, but leaving them there wasn’t an option. We got them vaccinated, gave them a place to sleep, and started giving them the life they should’ve had from the beginning.
After contacting animal control, we found out their previous owners didn’t want them anymore. Just like that… they were abandoned.
But just as things were starting to look better, we got devastating news.
Toby tested positive for heartworm disease.
There are worms living inside his heart and lungs—slowly damaging his body. If left untreated, it can lead to heart failure and death. The hardest part is… he has no idea. He still wags his tail, still looks at us with trust, still acts like a happy, loving dog.
He doesn’t know he’s fighting something that could take his life.
We want to save him. We’re trying everything we can. But the treatment—doxycycline and melarsomine—is expensive, and as college students, we just can’t afford it on our own.
We didn’t leave him on the side of the road that day… and we can’t give up on him now.
If you can help in any way—donating, sharing, anything at all—it would mean everything to us and to Toby.
He deserves a full life. He deserves a chance.
Thank you for reading and for caring
