My past student, and good friend, Robert Liddell has been courageously battling cancer for the past 5 years.
His first diagnosis, at age 38, was bone cancer in both legs and he spent over a year in treatment, which included months of chemotherapy, two knee replacements, and two femur operations.
This last year, at age 43, he was diagnosed with a cancer recurrence in his lung and liver. Again, he went through a long stretch of chemotherapy, and that treatment has slowed the progression of the cancer, but tumors are still present.
Robert’s attitude is good, and he has the support of his wife, Dionne, and their three children ((Aniyah, 15, Cameron, 12 and Makenzi, 10).
Although Robert does have medical insurance, the family also has medical debts, as well as other debts, as a result of his continuing struggle against his cancer.
Dionne is working full time and is looking for an additional part time job. She also has extra family responsibilities and added time commitments for doctor/hospital visits. Robert was a youth minister before his diagnosis but has not been able to work since.
There’s no way to alleviate the medical struggle Robert battles but there is a way to lessen the financial stress.
$20,000 won’t eliminate all of the debt. I am hoping, though, we can help with this GoFundMe account.
When I taught Robert in high school, I saw someone with courage and wisdom beyond his years. We have kept in touch all this time and I continue to be amazed by his wisdom, strength and spirit.
I am asking for help on behalf of Robert and his family. Any amount that is comfortable for you, small or large, will help them out and be appreciated.
