In March 2020, I will begin my 2,000 mile hike from Georgia to Maine on The Appalachian Trail-- the longest marked trail in the country and one of the longest in the world. Even though millions attempt this journey every year, few make it from Springer Mountain, Georgia to Mt. Katahdin, Maine. With your love and support, I can use these funds to resupply food and equipment along the way that might fail me throughout my hike.
Even before I retired, I knew this was something I wanted and needed to do. At the end of my high stress 30 year career, I realized my love for humanity did not exist anymore. The 6 to 7 months I will be walking will be in solitude, away from my friends and family. Though by myself, I will be carrying the remains of three men that had a large impact on my life; Will Mauney, a college friend and Eagle Scout who succumbed to addiction at an early age, "Happy" Jack Davis, a former scoutmaster of mine who believed in God and loved me as if I were family, and lastly, Andy Molatch who was a CMPD officer, an outdoorsman, and a man of God. From this experience I want to gain a better understanding of society, build a deeper relationship between myself and God, see some of the best views on the East Coast, and safely walk 2,189 miles. I know God will not make it easy and I could never thank everyone who has supported me enough.
