For those of you who know Maureen, we don't have to tell you the type of person she is. For those of you who haven't had the privilege, please allow me to elaborate - Maureen is an ever positive, hardworking individual who will NEVER tell you she's too busy to lend an ear or assist a friend. She'll talk to friends and acquaintances for hours about their lives, their stories; rarely turning the conversation on herself. Not because she’s guarded but because she is genuinely interested in those around her.
Maureen has worked hard for all that she’s achieved, which is why when I asked if we could establish a “gofundme” account in her name, it was met with much hesitation….
Maureen’s world came crashing down on September 24th, when her husband, Ted, was tragically killed in a car accident. A man with a suspended license and a history of DUIs drifted off the road, into Ted's car as he was waiting to pull out of a parking lot. Ted was killed instantly; now Maureen and their one year-old daughter, Eleanor, are without a father, a husband, and a life-long friend.
In Maureen’s message to me, explaining the events of the day, (because she didn’t think she’d be able to make it through a phone call) she ended with, “All I can say is hold your loved ones close. Tell them everyday you love them, because you just never know when it could be their last.”
The reality is this could be happening to any of us, but it’s happening to one of the most optimistic, selfless people I know. In an instant, Maureen became a widow and a single mother with a very uncertain future and financial responsibilities that need to be taken care of in the present. She doesn’t believe in handouts and will cringe when she sees this page but she NEEDS help.
Selfishly, besides being there for support, this is all we can do to help. We can’t take away her pain or bring Ted back. We can’t give Eleanor her “daddy.” All we hope to do is make tomorrow a little easier than today and the next easier than the day before. Please, help us help Maureen.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you!
