A couple years ago my family was shocked to discover that our mom had Lupus, an auto-immune disorder. It is an inflammatory disease caused when the immune system attacks its own tissues. It is when the body thinks it needs to constantly fight, breaking down tissues and organs. This is extremely painful and has a variety of symptoms. First my mom lost her bladder. She had very intricate and painful procedure that in end, led to a lawsuit as the implanted sling was recalled. Not only her, many people were affected by this procedure. She still struggles with bladder failure today. A few years back, Mom also started getting really sick where she would have excruciating stomach pain, vomiting, dizziness, and sometimes not be coherent. She has these spells every couple weeks. Recently we found out the cause is liver disease and pancreas disease. Additionally, gerd has been impacting her esophagus causing not only significant acid reflux, but the deterioration of her esophagus. Holes in her esophagus are allowing for fluids to leak into her lungs causing a drowning sensation.
The past few months especially have been hard for mama, but there are things that will help. There are three surgeries that have been recommended with a few smaller procedures in between. Without them, i'm afraid we wont have much time with her...
She has been extremely strong on this journey, participating in Lupus walks, fundraising, and mentoring others with Lupus through online groups, always supporting other Lupus families and helping them to stay strong. She also has two baby grand-daughters and another grandchild on the way. I also, would like to have children one day and would love for them to have the chance to know their nana. My mom is only 44 years old and deserves to have extra time here. Please help us by donating anything you can, it is much appreciated.
