Save our Sid

Where to start? Its quite a long story so please bear with me. Sidney is my 18 month old Rottweiler. He is the most loving creature Imaginable and doesnt have any aggression or negative behaviour in him. He is an absolute ambassador for his breed. I have had Sidney since he was a puppy, although at 18 months he still technically is a puppy. When Sidney got to about 3 months old I started to suspect he had a problem with his legs. I took him to the vets on several occasions but his dodgy walk was put down to the fact he was still growing. However about 3 months ago he had a fit followed by another exactly 3 weeks later. The vet decided to refer him for an MRI scan and off we went to a specialist referral centre in Guildford. The MRI found no reason for the fits, however we did discover the reason for Sidneys strange walk. He has what is commonly referred to as wobblers. This is where the vertebrae in the neck are deformed.  Sidneys is a particularly drastic case as it is all 7 of his vertebrae that are affected. They are slowly crushing his spinal cord and this will over the coming months leave him paralyzed. The specialist vet that performed the MRi has said surgery to stabilise the problem is possible but the cost of this would be £14,000.  Now sidney is insured to the value of £7000. However the MRI has already used £2600 of the insurance which means there is £4400 remaining. To go ahead with the surgey and give Sidney a chance of a normal life I need to find £9, 600. I fully understand this is a huge ask and I actually feel guilty doing this but at the same time I am desperate to give Sidney a fighting chance. He is so young and watching him trying to play and falling over because he already can't feel his legs is absolutely heartbreaking. If you can help then it will be more appreciated than you can ever know and any money raised above the cost of the surgery will be donated to a charity that specialises in dealing with wobblers.
