On a quiet Sunday in November, our oldest sister Michelle (35) experienced a sudden, frightening seizure—her very first. She was rushed to the hospital, where an MRI revealed what looked like a tumor. Follow-up tests confirmed she had a stage 2 glioma. After undergoing surgery in December where around 60% of it was removed, she’s been contending with multiple seizures that prevent her from driving, and a long treatment road ahead. The medication she requires to prevent the seizures is also expensive and not covered. Meanwhile, her husband Ken is out of province for Osteopathy training, so she’s facing this monumental challenge mostly alone at home, far from her family.
Michelle has been self-employed as a massage therapist for 10 years, meaning she has no EI benefits to rely on. She is currently unable to work due to her treatments, and there is no certainty on when she can return. Over the years, she’s poured her heart into taking care of others, helping clients find relief from pain and stress with her healing hands and kind spirit. Now, she needs some of that compassion reflected back.
Any contribution you can make will help cover medical bills, everyday expenses, and the many hurdles she faces on her road to recovery. Whether you donate or share her story, you’ll be giving Michelle the chance to focus on healing and recovery.
Thank you for taking the time to read Michelle’s story. Your support and generosity mean the world to our family.
