A message from the Chow family: A week ago, we lost our dad to a sudden cardiac arrest. Our family was completely shocked and unprepared, as he had always been a healthy and loving man who worked his whole life to provide for our family, and we expected to have many more years with him.
While putting him to rest, this tragic loss of our father was compounded by a break-in robbery at our family home during the funeral services. What hurts the most is not that our home was ransacked and destroyed, or even that all our valuables and sentimental remnants of our dad were stolen from us. What breaks our hearts most is that we feel violated and unsafe in a place where we thought we could grieve in peace and honor the life of our dad where he raised and cared for us.
My dad was a humble and generous man, and he would’ve given the shirt off his back to anyone who asked for it. He believed in the power of love and karma, and always reminded us to care for others as we’d want to be cared for. I know he wouldn’t want us asking anyone for help, but I know he would be the first to help someone if they needed it.
With all this unexpected tragedy, we’ve had to deal with the mounting costs of keeping our family safe and protected while we continue to grieve. We feel extremely fortunate for the support and love of our friends and neighbors carrying us through this unimaginable nightmare. It’s what’s been keeping our faith in goodness and the spirit of my dad alive.
