YES, YOU KANdy….

During the holiday season, it's common to get caught up in receiving gifts during the holiday season and forget the joy of giving. So, I want to challenge everyone who reads this to give not for me, but for a special person in our lives who means a lot to us and many others. Let's spread the joy of giving this holiday season.

On December 5, 2020, my younger sister, Kandy Coley, was diagnosed with a rare form of Leukemia called Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML). She has been doing therapy for the last three years, which consists of taking chemo daily which has wreaked havoc on her body, causing her to have congestive heart failure and now kidney damage. Over the past three years, Kandy has been hospitalized more than 10 times, each stay lasting weeks.

Kandy is an incredibly selfless person who always puts the needs of her family, friends, co-workers, and community throughout Caldwell County before her own. Despite facing numerous challenges, she has fought and worked harder than most people in her situation. It goes without saying that her diagnosis has been a significant obstacle for Kandy and her family. Just like with any cancer diagnosis, the cost of medical bills, gas, meals, and other expenses has brought on more stress and financial burden than anyone should have to endure. This is the last thing she needs to worry about. What we consider everyday life takes us to our knees… yet she prays for 1 day of normalcy.

Even though my sister is holding it together, her doctors say she needs to rest and lighten her stress in order to survive what has already taken so much from her. Her doctor has recommended she stop working, but she cannot afford to stop working financially. My sister is one of the strongest people but can no longer fight this battle without help.

I kindly ask, if you are in a position to donate, please consider it; if you are not, I would appreciate it if you could share this message on your social media accounts. However, what I would ask above all else is that you keep my sister in your thoughts and prayers. She needs all the support she can get during this difficult time.

I humbly request your assistance in raising funds to help cover Kandy's medical bills this Christmas season. Our goal is to reach or exceed $5,000, and I believe with our collective faith and generosity, we can make a difference. Let's come together to bring a smile to Kandy's face and remind her that humanity still has a strong sense of compassion. As for me, I hold onto the message of Philippians 4-13, which tells us that we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us.
