Local Family In Need
Donation protected
To our Como friends:
A very real situation came to our attention over the weekend. Due to a series of unfortunate events a family faces eviction from their home tomorrow. They had no choice but to relinquish all five of their dogs (ages 9 years to 1 year) to the rescue we volunteer for. Their dogs are well taken care of, in good health and friendly. Watching them say good bye to each one was heart breaking.
Rummaging through the vet documentation and adoption papers that the family kept neatly organized in folders was very upsetting. I kept thinking that at the time they adopted all their pets that this situation would have been the furthest thing from their minds.
The way they loved their animals and cared for them is a testament (to me) of who they are. The two older kids I met were so polite and thoughtful. They told me everything I needed to know about the personalities of each dog.
I have kept in contact with the mom over the weekend. I am helping her with looking into all possible housing options. At the very least they have separate shelters lined up for them to go to. Unfortunately, at this time, they will not be able to stay together.
The kids are a 17 y/o girl, and boys 14, 10, and 7. The younger boys are upset about Christmas and the older two are still trying to cope with losing their pets.
Mom has reached out to several charities and she is being told that it is too late to make something happen by the Holiday.
Now here goes my plea…I am personally asking all of my local friends that while you are out picking up last minute gifts if you would consider purchasing one more gift for any one of the children this week and I will come to you to pick it up. Please PM me or comment if you have something you would like to donate.
7 y/o boy – Likes Power Rangers, action figures, anything fantasy and adventure related, also loves to help mom cook
10 y/o boy – Likes airplanes, jets, collects rocks, likes anything “earthy” loves to stay busy
Both boys like Play Doh.
14 y/o boy – Loves basketball, boxing and into staying fit. Anything fitness related.
17 y/o girl – Mom describes as an old soul (I can attest to this after meeting her) loves art, draws constantly and speaks several foreign languages. She wants a type writer and enjoys shopping at Goodwill. Her plan is college next year.
Anything given will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for reading.
