Giving up is not an option
This is a story of Father and son, Roy and Justin Schantz. Justin is always pushing his Father Roy to exercise and be active in life. The two love spending time together, whether at a Pittsburgh Steelers game, or just sitting home watching the Mets game. On February 4th , Roy received a phone call that has changed his family’s life forever. Justin was in a horrific car accident and was airlifted to a trauma unit. This is the phone call of every parents nightmare.
Justin was trapped for 45 minutes before he could be rescued. He arrived at the hospital with burns over 52 percent of his body.
Due to the severity of his burns, the doctors performed an emergency amputation of both Justin’s legs. As of now, Justin is out of surgery in an medically induced coma. At the age of 21, the extent of his injuries go far beyond the amputation of his legs.
He will need extensive rehabilitation .
This youngs mans life will be changed forever. His life‘s goal is to graduate from college and join the military branch of the Army.
Roy has always put his children first. Their success was his number one goal, and his compassion was always there for other people as well.
Roy is employed by the United States Postal Service for past 30 years. We all know him as the gentle giant. His care and concern for others is overwhelming.
Being the most selfless man we know, this comes from many of our hearts and there are many of our hearts hurting.
