We are locked up at home with food, water, warmth and all we need to survive (Alhamdulillah). But we are still scared, still anxious, still struggling each day.
Why? Because there’s a virus out there that we cannot see and cannot protect ourselves from, except by staying home.
There’s something else we can’t see; something that isn’t shown on our TV... It’s the millions of vulnerable people in Yemen who are fighting for their lives in a war torn land, and now they have another enemy to face... just like us they fear the virus... but unlike us, they have nowhere to hide.
Yemen is experiencing the worst humanitarian crisis in the world. The figures are hard to comprehend – 24 million people need humanitarian help – that’s more than triple the entire population of London. Hundreds of thousands of children are experiencing malnutrition, and need urgent help to survive.
Yemenis have experienced unimaginable brutality and hardship over the last years – the most severe cholera 85,000 babies and toddlers starved to death, and hundreds of thousands more are malnourished, urgently needing help to survive.
This Ramadan, we’re focusing on supporting as many Yemenis as we can through this fragile time of hunger. It’s hard to overstate just how desperately your support is needed – a staggering 80 per cent of Yemenis need help just to survive.
The least we can do is give whatever we can to help them in their struggle for survival.
“The dearest of deeds to Allah, may He be exalted, is joy that you bring to a Muslim, or relieving him of distress, or paying off debt for him, or dispelling his hunger.” (Al Tabarani)
