No Embryos After Second IVF — We Still Dream of a Family

Donation protected
Hi, I’m Stacey. My husband, Adam, and I have been trying to grow our family for years. After eight IUIs, two embryo transfers, and a miscarriage in October 2024, we just completed our second round of IVF — and it left us with zero embryos.

Nothing to transfer. Nothing to freeze. Nothing to try with.

We’re devastated. We’re in debt. And yet, somehow, we’re still standing. Still hoping. And now, we’re asking for help — from anyone who believes that family shouldn’t be a privilege reserved for the wealthy.

Infertility Isn't a Possibility in My Life — It's Hereditary
My mother struggled to conceive. So did my grandmother. I always knew fertility might be difficult for me, so I started speaking to doctors back in 2012 — long before we were “officially trying.”

But no one took me seriously.

I was dismissed again and again by doctors who told me to “come back when you’re actively trying.” As if my concerns didn’t matter until I’d suffered enough. As if the only way to access support was to go through heartbreak first.

All I wanted was to be proactive. I had a family history, and I had my own health concerns. But no one listened.

Then came more pain. In 2015, I was in two car accidents just 10 days apart, followed by a third in early 2016. My body broke down. My dreams were put on hold. I spent years in chronic pain, bouncing between jobs and trying to stay afloat — while watching time slip away.

By the time my husband and I were in a more stable place, I sought out an OBGYN in Spring 2022. Again, I was told to “relax” and “take a vacation,” as if infertility was a mindset issue. It took an entire year to get a referral to Aurora Reproductive Care. And when I finally arrived, I was told I wasn’t trying hard enough — even though I had been “actively trying” for 14 cycles.

How many cycles, how much grief, and how many losses must we endure before we’re taken seriously?

We’ve Done Everything Right. We Still Have Nothing Left.
Our first IVF cycle in 2023 gave us two embryos. One transfer failed. The other brought a short-lived pregnancy — and a devastating miscarriage.

For our second IVF cycle, we gave it everything: our money, our energy, our hope. And we got nothing in return. Zero embryos.

Now, at 37 and 40, we’re out of embryos, and already in debt from our first cycle. Yet our dream of having a child hasn’t changed.

Why We’re Fundraising
We’re raising money to:

Pay off our existing IVF debt

Afford whatever the next option is, while we still have time

Cover costs for medications, and monitoring.

Infertility care in Saskatchewan is not funded upfront — only partially reimbursed through a tax credit after the fact, which does nothing for those of us who can’t afford treatment up front. I’ve seen too many people suffer in silence or go without care.

That’s why I’m not just trying to build our family — I’m fighting for change.

This Is Bigger Than Just Us
No one should have to go through years of dismissal, financial strain, and emotional trauma just to be seen. No one should have to prove their pain before they’re offered help. And no one should have to go into debt just to have a chance at a child.

That’s why I’ve become an advocate for upfront IVF funding in Saskatchewan. I’ve organized events, gathered signatures, and used my voice to push for a future where fertility care is treated as health care — not a luxury.

If our story reaches even one person who feels less alone, or one decision-maker who decides to do better — then I’ll keep speaking up.

But right now, we’re still in the middle of this. And we need help.

How You Can Help
If you’re able to donate — thank you.
If you can’t — please consider sharing our story.

Every donation, every kind word, and every share brings us one step closer to the family we’ve fought so hard for.

Thank you for seeing us. Thank you for standing with us.
With love and hope,
Stacey & Adam
