“Research suggests that development of racial and ethnic identity can improve minority children’s self-esteem, academic performance, ability to cope with prejudice and discrimination, and sense of well-being."

I'm raising money to benefit Afrikan Kulcha School to help take students to study abroad, in Ghana and Ethiopia any donation will help make an impact. Developing positive self-images and self-discipline is paramount in the development of African American children. Far too often many of our children face an uphill daily battle, which can have a negative influence on their development. Underemployment in the household, the changing concepts of childhood, low self-esteem, misuse of achievement tests to label and place students, lack of cultural identity, and a host of other environmental factors that can severely inhibit and limit their true potential in life. Developing self-discipline requires adult consistency and positive reinforcement of good behavior, and most importantly, fusing the basis of cultural identity and connection. That is where we, Afrikan Kulcha School, Inc. endeavor in guiding and leading our students in these major tenets.

Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me.

WHO WE ARE

Afrikan Kulcha School, Inc is an African-centered 501(c)3 organization that provides cultural education for students in the community. We have partnered with HABESHA, Inc. (Helping Africa By Establishing Schools at Home and Abroad) an African-centered 501(c)3 organization that cultivates leadership in youth through practical experiences in cultural education, sustainable agriculture, entrepreneurship, holistic health, and technology. Established 2002 in Atlanta, HABESHA has branches in Washington D.C., New York, Baltimore, and St. Thomas VI. HABESHA, Inc.'s Black To Our Roots Program has taken 60 youths to Ghana and Ethiopia over the last 14 years.

Afrikan Kulcha School has established a Sankofa Youth Initiative which plans their first Three-week trip Summer of 2019 to Africa through Afrikan Kulcha Schools' Sankofa Initiative.

The program is year-long and targets specifically Middle/High School youth from underserved urban environments. The children selected for the program will contribute immensely by raising monies for their travel to Africa through creative business/entrepreneurial exercises, create video programs and artistic performances that explore important issues within the African Diaspora community, travel to destined locations with the U.S. Our youth need your support in this endeavor.

The cost of each youth's travel to Africa is $4,500. All money donations are tax-deductible and other donations. Your funding donation will be recognized in our program throughout the year and we have enclosed a donor packet and envelope for you as well. We truly appreciate and thank you for your continued support.
