Hello. I live in Florida and I am originally from Lambs River, Westmoreland, Jamaica. Jamaica has been decimated by Hurricane Melissa, especially the parishes of Westmoreland, St. Elizabeth, Hanover, and St. James. I intend to travel back to Jamaica within the next 3 weeks to help my community recover from the storm. I will be packing barrels with food, clothing, small household items, personal hygiene items, basic medical supplies, Starlink devices, hand tools, and a few small generators. Initially, I want to get items that I can ship quickly to Jamaica. When I get there, I will be purchasing building materials to assist people in rebuilding their houses. I was devastated by Hurricanes Helene and Milton last year, so I know what it's like to lose a lot and face uncertainty. I also experienced Hurricane Gilbert in 1988 back in Jamaica, but seeing the damage from Melissa, I know things are much worse than they were after Gilbert. I know the recovery process will take a long time and Jamaica will need all the help it can get. We have a health center in Lambs River, Westmoreland, and two churches. These were all destroyed along with many houses, farms, and infrastructure. Like with any community, people come together from near and far to help each other. This is how we bear each other's burdens. My wife traveled with medical teams to both Dominica and the Bahamas in the past to help their recovery after major hurricanes devastated those islands. We have a family friend who is a dentist who has traveled to Seaford Town, Westmoreland, several times in the past to provide free dental care to that community. We have another family friend who used to organize medical missions to Haiti before the recent instability there. I wanted to give as much information as I could because we are already seeing a lot of scams going around in the name of helping Jamaica.
