We Are from Rafah... Living Between Pain and Hope

My name is Ruba. I am the sister of Amir, and we are originally from Rafah in southern Gaza.

We were forced to flee our home due to the war, and we have been displaced in the central area of the Gaza Strip for two years now.

Before the war, we lived a modest but stable life. Today, we have nothing left—our home was destroyed, and we lost all our belongings. Every day is a struggle for survival.

My younger brother Amir suffers from severe throat and tonsil infections. He has undergone multiple surgeries but remains in constant pain. His condition requires consistent medical treatment, healthy food, and a clean, stable environment—none of which are available to us under current conditions.

Then we faced the most painful blow.

Our eldest brother, the only provider for our family, was killed during this devastating war.

He was the one who carried the financial burden, the one who ensured we had food and medicine. With his death, we lost not just a brother but our only lifeline.

Now we live in makeshift shelter.

We are without income, without safety, and without access to basic necessities.

We watch helplessly as Amir suffers, unable to afford his treatment or even his painkillers.

Sometimes we skip meals just to buy him medicine.

We are left with no house, no job, no future—only pain, and the silent ruins of our past.

Medical treatment for Amir (hospital fees, medication, follow-ups): €10,000

Rent and temporary shelter for one year: €7,000

Basic furniture and household items: €4,000

Schooling and books for Amir and younger siblings: €3,000

Winter clothes, blankets, and heating needs: €2,000

Psychological support and trauma counseling: €2,000

Transportation, communication, and essential logistics: €2,000

Emergency reserve for medical or crisis needs: €5,000
