Support for victims of the Rio Grande do Sul disaster

I believe that all Brazilians like me are very impacted by the current situation in my state, Rio Grande do Sul, even after 8 years living in the USA, I feel a duty to do something to help.

I intend to divide the money between two people through a wire transfer. The money will be used to buy clothes, food, and immediate necessities such as basic appliances.

The first person is Micaela Loreto. She was my assistant for four years in Brazil when I worked as a hairstylist. She is young and a single mother to a 4-year-old autistic boy. She was already vulnerable before the flood, and now the situation has become more critical.

Her son attends school, but the building is also underwater. There is no estimate of when they can return. She was living with her maternal grandmother, who is 89-years-old, and her diabetic mother. Her father was murdered when she was a teenager. They live in São Leopoldo, Rio Grande do Sul, in a poor neighborhood that is completely destroyed. They have no idea of when they will be returning home to see what remains as the water remains high. They are currently in a shelter. All nearby supermarket chains have been affected, and they are currently living solely on donations.

Then I would like to help Denise da Rosa also from São Leopoldo. She is a 50-years-old, manicurist, married to a truck driver. Both are self-employed and do not have access to resources or prospects for the future. They lost their only asset and the fruit of a lifetime of investment, their home. Denise and I worked together for about 10 years, and we became very good friends.

Denise has two daughters and is sheltered in her eldest daughter's apartment, which was partially affected, along with her youngest daughter who is still dependent on her. She intends to return to the same place and rebuild the house, but there is still no timeframe of when as the area is still not safe and local officials are not giving any estimated dates. A bank transfer will be made for both.
