Challenge 21

Challenge 21: June 16th 2024

Hi,

Challenge 21 is a goal I've wanted to achieve over last few years and to support this amazing charity which has supported not only Olivia (my beautiful neice) but her whole family.

I started running this year with the ladies from Midleton Wagpies and as I saw challenge 21 ahead I decided instead of watching this year i would get stuck in, 21km is massive under taking for me but it's so small in comparison to what the centre provides for my niece and all the children that's uses its services

Why 21?

Down syndrome, is a genetic condition caused by an extra chromosome. Most babies inherit 23 chromosomes from each parent, for a total of 46 chromosomes. Babies with Down syndrome however, end up with three chromosomes at position 21.

The provision of early intervention services is critical to ensure that kids with this extra chromosome can reach their full potential. Providing these services at a (heavily) subsidised rate is what our little charity is all about

To support our work, we are asking all those that join us for Challenge 21 to aim to raise €21 from 21 people before walking the 21 km. Of course, we would be delighted with any funds raised, but it is always good to have a goal in mind
