Hi All,
My name is Anna Traub and I am Junior at Drake High School. I have been nominated by two of my teachers for a summer program run by NSLC at Georgetown University this summer. It is an incredible honor to be nominated, and I am excited to represent my school at the program.
NSLC, National Student Leadership Conference, offers high school students summer programs at prominent college campuses all over the United States. Students can choose between studying medicine, forensic science, bio technology, law and many other worthy subjects inbetween. The 9 day program I am interested in will be an intensive on Law & Advocacy. I chose this program to learn a bit of what having a profession in law entails, what an education in law could look like and to get a better understanding of the legal system in the U.S. I am 16 and continually trying to figure out what I want to be and do in the future. Right now I am leaning towards law and advocacy, as I enjoy a good debate and firmly believe in standing up for what is just.
During my time at Georgetown I will attend law school classes, meet with law professors, visit the U.S. Supreme Court and talk to people from the top law firms in the country. I will also get to take part in criminal trial simulation, one of the most enticing parts for me.
This program gives me the opportunity to not only explore my interest in law, but also see what attending an East Coast college might be like. I am primarily looking at East Coast schools for my undergraduate degree.
I have already raised $1350 for this program, by working after school jobs and babysitting, but need more to cover the remainder of the program cost and air fare. I need to have raised $4000 by May 15th. Yikes!
To learn more about the program here is the link to their website: http://www.nslcleaders.org
Although it is a little uncomfortable to ask for money, I don't see any other way I will be able to afford this program without help from friends and family. Thank you for taking the time to read this. I hope you are inspired to help me get to Georgetown this summer!
Thank you!!
Anna Traub
